Question by davignon_x: time verus chronic cocaine addict?
How long could a chronic cocaine addict survive? What are some factors that can affect this, how does this differ between a man and a woman?
Thanks, also .. if someone can survive snorting 6 grams of cocaine a day: how long would this person have to live?

Well, I guess it depends on what you mean by ‘chronic” – I knew 60 year old that had been doing coke since – well, the majority of his life, and he was still going strong – he may have been doing it more often before, but he still did it 3-4 times a week.
The big risk is to your heart. Your heart is weakened when you do any drugs that “rev you up” – and when you do coke your heart feels like it’s going to jump out of your chest – all that fast, slow, fast, slow is really bad.
Some of the factors are size of the person, how much they do, how often, do they mix it with other stuff, etc.
Men and women are different because of their size and the size of their hearts, and just their ability to tolerate – I think men actually might be at more risk because of their propensity for heart attacks (not that women don’t have heart attacks!)
I don’t think I can imagine someone being able to snort that much coke. Seriously – The most I’ve seen done is like 3 grams in one day split 2 ways. and that was too much! Starting in the morning and going all night. At some point your body takes over and says “rest now, I’m in charge” – just like with alcohol.

Dear Davignon:
Let me make this clear: I am no authority on this subject. What I once knew I have already forgotten. But, to the best of my recollection, cocaine speeds up the heart. Many years ago, my son appeared at my house asking to “borrow” money and I (being a registered nurse), put my hand on his chest to find that his heart was beating about 180 beats per minute. Normal heart rate is 60-80 beats per minute. I had heard “rumors” that he was on cocaine. This brought it home. Little birdies hearts beat 600 beats per minute, but they have a very short life-span.
BOTTOM LINE: your heart cannot be overworked like this no matter how young you are or how in-shape you are. Makes no difference if you are male or female, 15 years old or 30 or 50. Your heart cannot take it.
There are many other adverse effects of cocaine, but the heart muscle strain is the big one.
How long can this person survive? This is in God’s hands.
