Smoking Marijuana While Pregnant?
Question by Mrs. Jones: Smoking marijuana while pregnant?
NOT planning on it. I heard someone who was pregnant talking about it and it worried me a little. I’m not for or against it. I just want some FACTS so I might either get her to stop or just let it go. She is my friend and we are pregnant at the same time, I don’t want something to happen to her baby. I have heard both sides looking on the internet. Even something about a withdrawal-like cry after the baby is born???? crazy because marijuana is not addictive right? What are lies and what are not!!!! Fact is it is illegal so either way it could be bad if she got caught. I’m concerned for her health though at the moment…

Hm. Interesting question. For the most part, I wouldn’t recommend it. I’m not aware of any actual problems with it, but it seems to me that the baby should get the opportunity to start life drug free.
That said, I know someone who needed to smoke it while she was pregnant. It was absolutely the only way she could keep food down. After months of morning/afternoon/evening/middle-of-the-night sickness, she and the baby were at significant risk because there weren’t any nutrients in her system. The baby is gorgeous and healthy at this point, with no signs of any addiction or withdrawal.
The thing is, tell your friend that you’re worried about her. We all should be willing to listen to our friends – especially when what they’re saying is in our own best interest.
