I’ve heard from a few people that prolonged cocaine use can cause diabetes, any truth to this?

No – there is no mechanism where cocaine could cause diabetes. However, diabetics that use cocaine can end up with ketoacidosis and also accelerate the types of tissue damage that are caused by diabetes.

Yes there is, and there is plenty of research to back it up. Prolonged use of cocaine, or any of the other illegal drugs can cause damage to the pancreas thus causing diabetes to develop. It can also be caused from taking other drugs like, drugs for arthritis, cancer fighting drugs, certain blood pressure medications, and all of the steroid family. These are just some of the drugs that are directly linked to developing diabetes, there are many others. Also be exposed to certain toxic chemicals can cause damage to the pancreas and lead to diabetes
